Linnean Collections: A digital archive for the Linnean Society
ULCC has been commissioned by The Linnean Society of London to develop and host a digital archive comprising over 10 Terabytes of unique material relating to its historic collections. This project is part of the Society's CARLS Programme (Computerised Access to the Collections of the Linnean Society), coinciding with the tercentenary of the birth of the great Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778).
ULCC provides the archival storage and the web applications providing access to images of thousands of specimens, including those collected by Linnaeus himself. The archive has been developed using the latest version of EPrints, the award-winning Open Source E-Repository software created by Southampton University. ULCC has added facilities for flexible viewing of the images and the ability to share, comment on and download the images.
Further information about the project is available at the website of The Linnean Society.
