ULCC Volunteering Day

Last Thursday (17th November 2011) staff from ULCC spent a day supporting the Oasis Children's Venture in Stockwell.

The project has been providing exciting adventurous play and learning for children and

young people for almost 40 years. Based in Stockwell within the London Borough of Lambeth it serves one of the most diverse and deprived communities in the Capital. They were recently given a lottery grant to provide a local “food growing scheme”. The “Food Growth” scheme will promote healthy eating and will help the children and their families to understand the links between health and nutrition.
They also provide a wide range of innovative, enjoyable and educational services across three sites, which are staffed by committed play and youth workers. Oasis offers term time and holiday activities, which are made available to all local residents. They seek to improve the quality of the lives of the children and young people that participate in their services by promoting their physical, social and emotional well-being through access to local play provision.

Work on the day included clearing the building materials, replanting trees, laying lawn, insulating and wiring the new administrative offices and taking down an old playground structure which had seen better days. The team worked well together and OASIS were delighted with what was accomplished in one day. Click here to see some of the work in progress and also some of the action caught on video!
