Future of Technology in Education conference - FOTE11

4th annual event organised by ULCC looks at how technology can help institutions to meet student expectations

ULCC’s Future of Technology in Education conference (FOTE) returns to London on the 7th of October 2011. Another ‘sell-out’ event, 350 delegates from the HE, FE, public and private sector are expected to make their way to Senate House, the University of London’s iconic art-deco headquarters.

Meeting student expectations

Taking into account the higher education reforms, the resulting rise in tuition fees and wide-spread student protest we want this year’s conference to help shine a light on the student.

We are looking to hear from policy makers, IT service providers and practitioners to find out if innovative use of technology can reduce costs and/or deliver efficiencies to keep fees down, do new (or the creative use of existing) technology help deliver a student experience worth £9,000 a year and what it is that students actually expect?

Keynote speakers

Once again we have a great line-up of speakers, some of which are FOTE veterans like James Clay and Nick Skelton who will discuss how ‘students are the agent of change’ and ‘pervasive media in education’ can make being at university a transformative experience.

Jan-Martin Lowendahl from Gartner will open the conference using the Gartner Hype Cycle to future gaze, whilst Cailean Hargrave (IBM) and Lee Stott (Microsoft) complete this year’s technology provider presentations by showcasing how to use ‘student analytics for success’ and how ‘Microsoft Kinect’ can be used in teaching, learning and research.

We will hear from Emily-Ann Nash (NUS) what the ‘student expectations’ are and Dr Su White will be sharing with the audience how to ‘make it rich and personal’.

Andrew Bollington, COO, University of London International Programmes asks what needs to be done so IT won’t be part of the problem for a new generation of “broke students” before Sue Beckingham ends the student journey (and conference) by exploring some of the innovative ways students are already using social media and technology to give them the edge and the changing approach to the way employers are recruiting.

Follow FOTE remotely

As always you can follow FOTE remotely on Twitter via the #fote11 hashtag.

In addition our sponsor Kulu Valley will live stream the event for us. Please visit: http://fote11.kuluvalley.com now and sign-up; this will help us gauge interest and make sure we have sufficient bandwidth available on the day.

We also created a FOTE11 mobile app with our sponsor CampusM. Available for iOS, Android and as a web app it will replace the printed delegate pack. The app is open to everyone; just follow the steps in the FOTE11 app blog post.

We look forward to an exciting and fun Future of Technology in Education conference.
